World Telecommunication Day

WORLD TELECOMMUNICATION DAY

17 May marks World Telecommunication Day, a day established by the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate the advantages of ICTs and raise awareness to increase access of technology to developing countries.

This year’s theme promotes “Accelerating digital transformation in challenging times”, placing emphasis on the critical role telecommunications in the resiliency of societies. ICT is viewed as a beacon of hope, enabling the opportunity for people to connect around the world. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our connections have been more important than ever.

In particular, the past year has seen an increase in stress, with the COIVD-19 pandemic having a major effect on our lives and causing feelings of uncertainty and anxiety. This has resulted in many of us facing stressful challenges which we wouldn’t of ever predicted.

The pandemic has also highlighted the importance of technologies and exposed technological differences between countries. Fundamentally, the day reminds us that technology is a shared international endeavor and is essential in helping to managing the crisis and helping the world recover.

COVID-19 & TELECOMS

REMOTE WORKING

90.7% of professionals would not be able to work from home without a telephone or computer.

USAGE

Ofcom reported a significant surge of telephone usage throughout UK lockdown

INTERNET TRAFFIC

During the peak of isolation, internet traffic saw a spike of 70% in 2-3 weeks (KPMG UK)

HOW TELECOMS HAS HELPED OVERCOME COVID CHALLENGES

With the past year seeing many pupils engage in remote learning and a number of businesses moving to remote working, we have used our telecoms offerings to help cater to this change, overcome Covid-19 challenges and minimise further disruption to the education sector.

We are therefore using World Telecommunications Day to celebrate how telecoms has contributed to keeping the world connected throughout not only the past 144 years, but throughout the recent pandemic.

MOBILE DIVERT

With VoIP, your telephone system can be integrated into staff’s mobiles through an app. This enables staff to use their mobiles as they would their office handset regardless of their location.

PLUG & PLAY

As VoIP phone systems run with an internet connection, they can be used in and out of the office. This has helped staff communicate wherever they are with the same features they rely on.

REMOTE WORKING

Through plug & play, mobile divert & laptop integration, you can work from anywhere, with the same functionality that you would have in the office, simply by picking up your laptop and going.

HOT DESKING

With VoIP, multiple users can log in to one phone and hot desk. Hot Desking is perfect for staff who don’t have a set desk as they can log into a shared phone that behaves like their own extension.

MICROSOFT TEAMS

With a seamless connection to Microsoft Teams, you are able to utilise all the additional benefits, including instant conversations, video chat, screen sharing and assignments.

CONFERENCE CALLS

Using VoIP, you can hold secure video meetings by integrating with Microsoft Teams. This has enabled virtual teaching, virtual conferences and meetings, allowing everyone to stay connected.
